Cardio workouts may burn slightly more calories per session in comparison to strength training. However, the difference does not lead to a practical meaningful contribution to overall daily calorie expenditure to cause an energy deficit. It is much easier to create an energy deficit from dietary manipulation which therefore should be the focus of all fat loss interventions. The major benefit of strength training that cardio does not posses is it's effect on increasing our metabolic rate over time. Gaining muscle increases energy expenditure considerably. Muscles require fuel, more muscle requires more fuel. Thus, if your goal is fat loss for long term healthy weight management you should prioritise strength training over cardio as it is much more effective in the long run. Play the long game.
